About the broodmares

A legacy of quality: The Maria Callas strain

De Margaretha Hoeve boasts an exceptional bloodline, with the renowned mare Maria Callas at its heart. Maria Callas, a daughter of Contender and the Furioso mare Farina, won numerous Grand Prix victories and championship titles. Her remarkable talent lives on in her offspring, such as Aphrodite Callas v Quinar, who herself produced two successful offspring by Warrant and Eldorado vd Zeshoek.

In addition, her half-sisters, including Unpredictable (Lagunas), Royal Classic (a full sister to Maria Callas and dam of Jealousy by Sandro Boy, an international show jumper), and Apple Essence (a half-sister to Vancouver), have each contributed significantly to the breeding programme. This extraordinary line is truly a crown jewel of The Margaret Farm.

Exceptional Broodmares: Marlena, Preciosa, Landgrafin, and Olita

Marlena (Highline x Ramiro) has produced notable offspring such as Eclips by Baloubet du Rouet, sold to the USA, and Rhacco Lena DMH by Chacco Blue, a promising stallion born in 2021. Her legacy continues through descendants like Grace Kelly by Nabab de Reve, the dam of Margaretha DMH by Comme il Faut, who is already competing in international classes. Preciosa, despite her Z-level career, demonstrated her quality through her progeny, such as Kaiser DMH by Cardento (2015), who competes in ranking classes with Kim Emmen. Nimrod DMH by Unaniem and Oxford DMH by Chacoon Blue impressed with their outstanding performances during the 2024 World Championships in Zangersheide, cementing their exceptional potential.

The Briolita lineage also plays a significant role in the breeding programme. Olita has produced top horses, such as Tolita by Voltaire, who achieved great success in Grand Prix and World Cup events in Asia. Landgrafin, the dam of Delvaux (Chacco Blue) and Kandiama DMH (Andiamo), continues a tradition of excellence. Landgrafin’s offspring excel at the highest level, with Delvaux competing in 5* events and the LGCT under Kim Emmen. A number of her other descendants are also showing promising results.

Amalia, a mare who achieved success at the 1.50m international level, adds further strength to the programme. A daughter of Lux with Cantus lineage in her pedigree, she is now part of the breeding programme, with her first offspring already active in the sport as of 2024.

“Breeding will always be the cornerstone of the sporting achievements at De Margaretha Hoeve, and it will be pursued with unwavering dedication and passion.”

Strong Partnerships as the foundation of success

Collaboration, future focus and exceptional offspring

De Margaretha Hoeve’s success is built on strong partnerships with renowned breeders, including Frans van de Pas of Stoeterij de Bernse Hoef and partners Nancy Huijsmans and André de Rijke. These collaborations have been instrumental in the development of outstanding sport horses. One notable example is Copa d’Ora (Numero Uno x Colibri), who, together with partners of the Hoeve, has produced internationally proven horses like Larossa (by Dakar VDL).

The achievements of the offspring speak for themselves. The mare Landgrafin, though sidelined by injury as a five-year-old, passed on her exceptional qualities to offspring such as Delvaux, a 2008 son of Chacco Blue, and Kandiama DMH, a 2015 daughter of Andiamo. Similarly, the mare Amalia, who competed internationally at the 1.50m level, has now found her role in the breeding programme.

With unwavering passion and care, De Margaretha Hoeve continues to focus on developing top-quality sport horses. This solid breeding foundation supports the Hoeve’s sporting ambitions and drives its international success.
